A solar energy project was launched in Zahra yesterday, as sundrenched Kuwait is getting serious about harvesting solar power. The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) organized a ceremony to launch the Photovoltaic (PV) Pilot Project at the Zahra Co-operative Society yesterday. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Development and Planning Hind Al- Subaih, and was attended by officials from various institutions. Subaih expressed her happiness on realizing this project, which adopts the will of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to utilize solar energy as an important source of energy. She also praised the cooperation of the institutions that worked on this project, which is a model for other similar projects in the future. KFAS Director General Dr Adnan Shihab-Eldin highlighted the essential role of Zahra Co-op Society as the first coop in Kuwait to apply renewable energy in its carport with the cooperation of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), National Technology Enterprises Company (NTEC) and the Ministry of Electricity and Water.
